Our Little ’69 GTO Story

By: Jimmy and Michele Sanderson

Well, let’s see now. We’re going on our 3rd year of owning our little GTO Ram Air III and have loved absolutely every minute of it! The new great friends we’ve met in the club along with the exciting cruises and events we’ve had in such a short time have been a blast. We truly envy you who have had your cars for a long time and have had the chance to enjoy all the events through the years. For those of you in the club that have rarely or never come out for an event, you’re missing the fun of a life time! We love every event and know you will too!

As far as our car goes… as you can see, it’s Palladium silver with a black vinyl top and black interior. I’m not a motor-head, so don’t know much detail about the power plant and such (except I’m pretty sure it’s the thingy that growls under the hood), but she comes packed with the 400 Ram Air III, Automatic, with PB/PS, and A/C. She’s a monster! We just love the power. Recently a friend of ours was sitting in the back seat and could feel the power and said to me “It’s like sitting on a rocket, isn’t it!”. And yes it is!

We purchased our car from a great guy up in Placerville. He was very happy to see his “baby” go to a good family. He told us how difficult is was for him to sell the car as he’d had it for the past 16 years and loved the car. For us, it was love at first site. Michele and I saw the car, talked it over for a few minutes, and then bought it! We owe special thanks to our very good and close friend Alan Blake for finding the car in one of periodicals listing classics for sale.

Although there’s nothing major wrong with the car (actually, she’s quite beautiful), we’re always trying to restore something. A little bit at a time everyone keeps saying. So you’ll be seeing us and our little GTO at as many events as we can get to. Hope to see you out there too!
