DAN & JEANIE BISKUP’S 1965 GTO
I purchased my first ‘65 GTO at the tender age of 23 just after
completing my tour of duty in the Navy. I had what every young man needs
a pumped 389, factory 3-2s and a 4 speed. It was Pontiac gold with
parchment interior, Rally-ones wheels with red lines. After having my
fun, and running it to the very edge, I didn’T have the funds to repair
the car and sold it to purchase a sensible family vehicle - a ‘73
Plymouth wagon.
Owning several Pontiacs over these many years, in Oct. of 1994 I
regained my sanity and bought our current ‘65 GTO. The opportunity
arose when a friend of mine purchased the GTO. When his wife saw the car
she told him you either get rid of the car or I am leaving. I brought the
car home to see how my wife would react, and we have been enjoying it
ever since.
The car is far from being in pristine condition. It will always be a
work in progress. It is a PHS documented Fremont car built 389, 4-barrel,
4 speed Pontiac. So far we have replaced the 389 with a 69 400 CID-bored
40 over. 10.75:1 compression, 270 cam with roller-tip rockers, Edelbrock
performer intake with a 750 Holley with Ram Air Pan. 3.55 posi with a 400
turbo, ‘67 Ram Air D port exhaust manifolds 2” exhaust through
two-stage Flowmasters and 2 1/2” tail pipes.
I am currently on the prowl for the parts to return it to the original
4 speed. I am also getting ready to replace the interior and vinyl top.
The final project will be paint. But that will be after I win the next
Survivor or Big Brother.
Since joining GGG we have enjoyed the many functions and people we
have met. Thanks for your ideas, input and friendship. Looking forward to
many years with GGG and driving our ‘65 GTO (The True Original).
